Lash extensions are individual lashes bonded to your natural lashes with adhesive, applied close to the lash line while your eyes are closed. Two things follow from that. First, the work is happening millimeters from your eye, so who is doing it and how carefully matters a great deal. Second, extensions live on lashes that shed on their own cycle, which is why sets need periodic fills to stay full rather than lasting indefinitely.
Irritation and allergic reaction are real and worth naming. People react to lash adhesives, sometimes on a set after several uneventful ones. Redness, swelling, itching or watering that starts after an appointment is a reason to contact the technician and, if it is significant or involves the eye itself, a medical professional. Weight and length also matter: sets that are heavier or longer than your own lashes comfortably carry can stress them. Ask what is being recommended for your natural lashes and why.
A lash lift is a different service. It uses chemistry to curl your own lashes rather than adding anything, so there is nothing to fill — but it is still a chemical service performed at the eye, it relaxes over time, and it carries its own irritation risk. Ask for a patch test before a first lift or tint, disclose eye conditions and sensitivities, and ask what the aftercare is before you book either service close to an event.
