The useful conversation before an event is about circumstances rather than adjectives. Whether the ceremony is outdoors in daylight or indoors under warm light. Whether there is a photographer using flash. How long between getting ready and the last photograph. Whether you will be moving between a hot afternoon and an air-conditioned hall. Those facts decide how makeup is set and what it is built to survive.
Utah adds its own conditions. Much of the Wasatch Front sits at elevation in dry air, and skin behaves differently in it — drier through the day, sometimes flushed, and unforgiving of anything applied heavily over a dry surface. Long outdoor sessions in strong sun add heat and sweat to that. Say if your day is outdoors, at altitude, or in the middle of a summer afternoon, because prep and setting are where that gets addressed rather than in the color choices.
Bring reference images and bring the reason for them. What in the picture are you responding to — the eye, the finish of the skin, how much or how little is there. Say what you do not want as clearly as what you do, and say if you rarely wear makeup, because the amount that reads as normal to you is information the artist needs. The goal you should be able to state out loud is looking like yourself, in these conditions, for this many hours.
